David

I think I am right in believing that in South Africa Poppy Day is the Saturday closest to 11 November. This is the fund-raising day for the S A Legion (and other organisations in other times). The day following 'Poppy Day' is Remembrance Sunday, when there are memorial church services and parades at war memorials.

Today, Durban's newspaper, 'The Independent on Saturday' managed to avoid all mention of Poppy Day, Remembrance Sunday, Armistice Day and memorial parades, while there was not a poppy to be seen on any of its pages. How times have changed!

In fact, the only poppy-wearing people I have seen during the past month have been on BBC and SkyNews programmes.

Regards
Brett

Guys

The most emotional start to a rugby test for me in a long time. The Last Post always gets the eyes a little blurry and a lump in the throat.

And the greatest thing is that the Springbok jerseys have a poppy on the left sleeve....we live in hope!

Well done to the Springbok management.

Well done the Boks ...1 down 2 to go!

I see the military were in force, anyone know who was the guard of honour for Prince William?

Hackles appeared to be green and white?

Hi Brian,

I didn't see the match but thought perhaps they played the last post at the end for the Welsh  For Islandwana you realise, ;)

I've been promising myself a visit to the cenotaph in JHB on Rememberence Sunday but couldnt make it again.

Interestingly the JHB cenotaph is a copy of the Whitehall one.

regards, Iain
