He took part in the operations in Chitral with the Relief Force in 1895 (medal with clasp); the operations on the NW frontier of India in 1897-8, with the Malakand Field Force (clasp), and the Boer War in 1899-02, in which he was severely wounded (despatches, KSA with two clasps and brevet of Major) He was promoted Lieutenant Colonel in 1906 in recognition of his services during the Munshi Expedition.(Buffs) East Kent Regiment
