BrineRobert Walter MaxwellLieutenantWas killed in action at Belmont, November 23rd 1899.  He was the son of Colonel Bruce Brine, Royal Engineers, and most of his ancestors had served in the navy and army.  His grandfather and two of his great uncles were admirals, and he had three uncles who rose to high military rank, one of them being a Major General Lieutenant Brine. He was born on June 23rd, 1875, educated at Marlborough, where he was in the Cadet Volunteer Corps, and entered the Northumberland Fusiliers from the Hertford Militia, in December 1895, being promoted Lieutenant December 1897.  He served in the Nile Expedition of 1898, and was present at the battle of Khartoum, receiving the medal with clasp.  His name was inscribed on a tablet placed in Marlborough College Chapel in memory of all Marlburians who fell in the war.
